Eco Seafood Chooses Nofitech

Vegar Likvik og Jan Arild Kingswick signerte avtale om utbygging på Kråkøya i Nærøysund.

Eco Seafood has signed a turnkey contract with Nofitech for the design and construction of a modern post-smolt facility. This marks the first phase in the company’s initiative for land-based salmon farming at the Kråkøya Biopark in Nærøysund.

“This marks an important milestone on the path to becoming a full-scale, land-based salmon farmer—from roe to market-ready fish. We’re starting with post-smolt production because it fits into our value chain and contributes to more sustainable salmon farming with shorter time at sea, higher survival rates, and reduced environmental impact,” says Eco Seafood’s CEO, Vegar Livik.

“We’re pleased that our solution was chosen. In a region with long-standing aquaculture traditions, Eco Seafood stand out as both innovative and forward-thinking. Nofitech’s scalable modular solutions, combined with Eco Seafood’s plans for phased development, makes the companies a perfect match,” says Nofitech’s CEO, Jan Arild Kingswick.

Construction of the first phase is planned for 2026 and lay a solid foundation for Eco Seafood’s further expansion into a complete land-based grow-out facility. The post-smolt modules will create 15–20 new jobs and marks the beginning of a growth plan aiming for 140 new jobs and an annual production of 46,200 tons of sustainably farmed salmon.

“We chose Nofitech for several reasons. They have extensive experience building post-smolt facilities in Norway and offer a standardized, modular RAS concept that has been developed and refined over many years. The fact that major, reputable players have returned for additional phases is, in our view, clear proof of the concept’s quality and operational reliability. Nofitech has previously delivered similar facilities here in Nærøysund, which gives us low risk and high predictability both during construction and operation,” says Livik.

Eco Seafood has signed a purchase agreement for 40 acres of coastal land in the Kråkøya Biopark, with an option for an additional 329 acres within the 1,000-acre industrial area. Williksen Forvaltning joined early as a shareholder and has contributed resources and industry expertise that have been crucial in bringing the project to this milestone. They are also going to be an active partner in the further development. Eco Seafoodadditionally collaborate on expertise and infrastructure with several established players in the value chain in one of the country’s most innovative aquaculture regions.

“At Kråkøya, we are also part of an industrial ecosystem that reduce our future energy needs, maximize resource utilization, and lower our climate footprint,” says Vegar Livik.
