The Nordic Scaleup Summit and Nordic Scaleup Awards 2024 took place on May 29 in Stockholm and is a gathering of entrepreneurs, investors, and politicians from the Nordic countries.

Nordic Innovation’s definition of a scaleup is an annual turnover of at least 2 million EUR, at least 10 employees, and an annual growth of at least 20 percent over the past three consecutive years.

One Norwegian Company in the Final

A total of 82 nominated companies participated in the Nordic Scaleup Awards 2024, with six reaching the final. Among the finalists were three Finnish, one Norwegian, and two Swedish companies, which they believe showed the diversity and dynamic development of scaleups in the Nordics.

– Scaleups play a crucial role in the Nordic economy and contribute significantly to the value creation in the region. It is interesting to note that the six finalists represent industries where each country has its strengths, says Svein Berg, CEO of Nordic Innovation, in a press release.

The company Qred was the ultimate winner of the award, but in a nice second place came the Norwegian technology company Nofitech, which designs and delivers moduleRAS facilities tailored to all parts of the production process; smolt, post-smolt, food fish, and broodstock.

Norwegian RAS at the Top

CEO Robert Hundstad at Nofitech says to LandbasedAQ that he is pleased that a Norwegian RAS supplier from the aquaculture industry in Norway is at the top in such an award.

– The second place means a lot to all of us in and around Nofitech. It is a recognition of the efforts of all employees, both individually and collectively, which have been put in day by day over many years and provides a lot of motivation to continue. We have also received very nice feedback from our customers and other partners on this, says Hundstad to LandbasedAQ.

He explains that they were contacted by Nordic Innovation, which based on Nofitech’s development and growth, believed they were a strong candidate to compete for this year’s award.

What do you think made you rank so high in this award?

– Our employees, without a doubt. They have, in their own ways, made a fantastic effort every day over many years. Because of this, Nofitech has managed to take the steps from being a startup to becoming an international corporation with companies in Norway, Denmark, and Germany, and with customers in Europe, Asia, and the USA. Additionally, we have a really good concept with a solid design at its core, he says.

Nofitech has its headquarters in Trondheim, where around 35 of the approximately 100 permanent employees are based. Hundstad says that with contracted personnel and temps, they have 200 employees.

The six companies that reached the final in the Nordic Scaleup Awards 2024 were:

  • IQM
  • Kempower
  • Nofitech
  • Pulpac
  • Qred (winner)
